Microsoft ไม่ได้สร้าง Universal Windows Apps (UWP) อย่างเดียว แต่ขยายแนวคิดไปสู่ Driver ด้วย เริ่มจาก Universal Audio Architecture สำหรับเสียง ปัจจุบัน OEM หลายแห่งนำไปใช้กับ Graphics Driver เช่นกัน บทความนี้พูดถึง Intel Modern Windows Drivers สำหรับกราฟิก
ตั้งแต่ Windows 10 October 2018 Update (v1809) Microsoft ย้ายสู่สถาปัตยกรรม Universal Drivers ใหม่ เรียกว่า Universal Windows Drivers (UWD) ใช้ได้กับ Windows 10 (Consumer & Enterprise) และ Windows Server 2019
ข้อดีของ Universal Windows Drivers (UWD)
- Developer สร้าง Driver Package เดียวใช้ได้ทุกประเภทอุปกรณ์
- Universal = รันได้บน Embedded, Tablet, Desktop PC ทุกชนิด
Package ยังคงมี INF และ Binaries ที่ติดตั้ง/รันบน UWP แต่ใช้ Interface ชุดเดียวกันทั่วทุก Version ของ Windows
Intel Modern Windows Drivers คืออะไร?
Intel จะจัดหา Modern Windows Drivers สำหรับผลิตภัณฑ์ของตน ใช้กับ Windows 10 และ Windows Server 2019 แทน Driver เก่า (Legacy)
ง่ายๆ คือ Driver ที่ติดตั้งและรันบน UWP-based Windows 10 คล้ายกับ UWP Apps แต่มันคือ Driver
ส่งผลต่อ PC ที่ใช้ Intel Graphics อย่างไร?
สรุป: ไม่มีผลกระทบต่อการใช้งานทั่วไป แต่ระหว่างการติดตั้ง จะมีการ "ย้าย" (Migrate) จาก Legacy ไป Universal Platform ตาม Intel และ Microsoft ไม่ควรส่งผลต่อประสบการณ์ใช้งานประจำวัน
⚠️ ข้อควรระวังระหว่าง Transition: ใช้ Installer จาก Intel หรือ OEM เท่านั้น ห้ามใช้วิธีอื่น เช่น INF/Have disk installation ผลอาจรุนแรง (Catastrophic)

เฉพาะการ์ดจอในรายการนี้เท่านั้น (ตรวจสอบใน Device Manager):

- Intel® Iris™ Plus Graphics 655 (Coffee Lake)
- Intel® UHD Graphics 600/605 (Gemini Lake)
- Intel® HD Graphics 620/630 (Kaby Lake)
- Intel® Iris® Plus Graphics 640/650 (Kaby Lake)
- Intel® HD Graphics 610/615 (Gemini Lake)
- Intel® HD Graphics 500/505 (Apollo Lake)
- Intel® HD Graphics 510/515/520/530 (Skylake)
- Intel® Iris™ Pro Graphics 580 (Skylake)
- Intel® Iris™ Graphics 540 (Skylake)
วิธีเช็ค Intel Graphics Controller ของคุณ
- ดาวน์โหลด Intel Driver & Support Assistant (IDSA) จะตรวจจับอัตโนมัติ
- หรือเช็คเอง: คลิกขวาเดสก์ท็อป > Display Settings > Advanced display settings > Display adapter properties > ดู Adapter Type
- ถ้าเป็น Microsoft Basic Display Adapter หรือ Standard VGA = ใช้ Generic Driver
- ถ้าเป็น Intel HD Graphics แบบไม่มีตัวเลข = ค้นหาสเปก CPU บนเว็บ Intel
เริ่มปล่อยตัวตั้งแต่ 28 พ.ย. 2561 ดาวน์โหลดได้ที่ Intel Download Center หรือใช้ IDSA Tool (ตรวจสอบ Config, Driver ปัจจุบัน, แจ้งอัปเดต, ติดตั้งอัปเดต) *ไม่รองรับ Windows Server ต้องโหลด Manual
⚠️ ไม่สามารถ Rollback กลับ Legacy Driver ได้หลังติดตั้ง Modern Driver
ไม่แนะนำและไม่ควร Rollback กลับ หลังติดตั้ง Modern ให้อยู่ที่นั่น จะดีขึ้นเรื่อยๆ หากจำเป็นอย่างยิ่ง ติดต่อ Intel Support (อาจใช้เวลา)
หลังติดตั้ง เช็ค Version ด้วย DxDiag หรือ MSInfo32 เทียบกับเว็บ Intel
แนะนำ: รอสักพักหลังปล่อยตัว หากมี Bug Minor update ถัดมาจะแก้ แล้วค่อยอัปเดต
