Per-Socket Licensing (WS 2012 R2)
1 License = 1-2 Sockets (Physical CPU) ไม่ใช่ Cores ไม่แบ่ง License ให้ 2 Single-socket Servers (ต้องซื้อ 2 Licenses) 4 Sockets = 2 Licenses
Per-Core Licensing (WS 2016/2019)
- 1 License = 2 Cores
- ราคา 2-Core License ถูกกว่า 1-Socket License 8 เท่า แต่ต้องซื้อขั้นต่ำ 8 Licenses (16 Cores) = Minimum Pack
- 1 × WS 2012 R2 (2 CPU) = 8 × WS 2019 (2 Core)
- มี 16-Core License Pack สะดวกสำหรับ Host มาตรฐาน
- Core ทุก Core ที่ Enable ต้อง License
VM Licensing Rules
Standard License (ครอบ Core ครบ) → Run 2 VMs Datacenter → Unlimited VMs
Non-Microsoft Guest OS: ไม่ต้อง License
ต้องการ >2 VMs บน Standard: ซื้อ License เพิ่ม (1 Standard License = 2 VMs)
ตัวอย่าง: Dual CPU 8 Cores/CPU (16 Cores) → 4 VMs → ต้องการ 16 2-Core Standard Licenses (2 Sets) หรือ 8 2-Core Datacenter Licenses
ลำดับ: License Physical Cores ก่อน → แล้วค่อย VM Instances
Break-even: ประมาณ 14 VMs คุ้มซื้อ Datacenter น้อยกว่า → ซื้อ Standard หลายชุด
POSE (Physical OS Environment) ใช้แค่ Manage Hyper-V/VMs ไม่ได้ Run Workload อื่น
VM Migration และ Licensing (Live Migration/VMotion)
Software Assurance (SA) ให้ย้าย License ระหว่าง Host ได้ แต Windows Server: ย้ายได้ครั้งเดียวใน 90 วัน
Cluster HA: ต้อง License ทุก Host สำหรับ Max VMs ที่อาจรันพร้อมกัน (Failover ทั้ง Cluster หนีไป Host เดียว)

Example 1: Hyper-V Cluster 5 Hosts, 2×20 Cores, 10 VMs/Host → Failover 50 VMs/Host → ซื้อ Datacenter
- Host: 40 Cores → 20 2-Core Datacenter Licenses
- 5 Hosts = 100 2-Core Licenses
Example 2: Branch Office 1 Server 2×4 Cores (8 Cores) 4 VMs → Minimum 16 Cores = 8 2-Core Licenses (2 VMs) + อีก 8 Licenses (2 VMs) = 16 2-Core Licenses หรือ 2 16-Core Licenses
