Padlock เล็กๆ บน Address Bar บางครั้งสีเปลี่ยน มี Symbol เพิ่ม หรือกลายเป็น Text ฟังก์ชันพื้นฐานชัดเจน: Padlock ปกติ = Safe, Warning Symbol/Message = Not Safe จริงไหม? จริงๆ มันซับซ้อนกว่านั้น เพราะ Padlock แสดงแค่ว่า Connection ถูก Encrypt ด้วย HTTPS ไม่ได้ให้ Insight มากเกี่ยวกับว่า Website 本身 Legitimate และ/หรือ Secure จริงๆ
Padlock "Secure" บอกอะไร
Chrome/Chromium, Firefox, Edge, Safari มี Padlock "Safe" ต่างกันเล็กน้อย แตบอกสิ่งเดียวกัน: Site ได้ SSL Certificate และ Encrypt Data ที่ส่ง/รับด้วย HTTPS หมายถึงใคร Intercept Traffic ไม่เห็นว่าทำอะไรบน Site สำคัญมากตอน Enter Credit Card หรือ PII
สรุป: Padlock ปกติบอกว่า Connected กับ Correct Site อย่างปลอดภัย
Padlock "Secure" ไม่บอกอะไร
SSL Certificates = Digital Proofs ที่ Site Register กับ Certificate Authority โดย Owner Entities จ่ายซื้อ Certificate แพงกว่า (Extended Validation "EV") เช็คว่าเป็น Entity จริง (เช่น Amazon.com = Amazon Corporation) แต่มือใครก็ได้ Free Normal SSL Certificate โดยไม่ Prove อะไรนอกจาก Ownership ของ Site
Connection ปลอดภัยจากสายตา แต Site อาจรันโดยคน Sketchy ที่รับ Data ที่ส่งปลอดภัยมา ทำอะไรก็ได้ แม้ Website Honest รันอยู่ Encrypted Connection ไม่ Mean Anything ถ้าฝั่งรับ Data Compromised HTTPS Cover แค่ขณะ Transmit ถ้าถึงปลายทาง Store บน Server Security แย่ หรือ Flaw อื่น ยั่งยืน
Bottom Line: Padlock = Safe Connection, ไม่ใช่ Safe Website

อนาคต Chrome อาจ Remove Padlock เลย แจ้งเฉพาะเว็บ Insecure เพราะ Good Webpage ควรใช้ HTTPS อยู่แล้ว แม้ Page ไม่ Process Sensitive Info Google Search Algorithm Reward Sites ใช้ Encryption ทุก Site Owner ควร Setup SSL Certificate User อาจไม่ Check Padlock แตถ้าเจอ Odd/Warning ใน Address Bar จะคิดสองครั้งก่อน Enter Info
