Greetings, children of the Internets!
What's new?
First impressions
ขึ้นกับ profile ถ้ามีอยู่แล้ว old looks retained แต่สำคัญเพราะ one special new feature: tabs on top
Tabs on Top!
聽起來像 Duran Duran song น่าจะ hottest, most controversial และ definitely populistic change Firefox 4 ships with tabs shifted above basic page icons implemented ใน Opera และ Chrome แล้ว Firefox follow suit
ใน Linux ต่างนิดหน่อย tabs on top หรือ bottom แต่ file menu อยู่ ดังนั้น new look muted down ด้วย multiple desktops running Windows Mozilla seeks critical impact บน Microsoft platforms Linux follow suit ภายหลัง
Throw in tabs on top และคุณ as good as new
ถ้าคุณมี profile configured แล้ว things จะดูเหมือนเดิม file menu seen/hidden ตาม preference tabs position unchanged ดังนั้นถ้ากลัว new look อย่ากลัว Switch back and forth = 4 seconds
เปลี่ยน new/old look: right-click (menu bar toggle Windows only)
Basic look Windows XP old profile:
New look XP:
Windows 7 new looks:
Windows 7 classic looks:
Integration ไม่สำเร็จเท่าที่คาด อาจเป็น Windows 7 theme specific แต่ได้ partially shaded buttons และ artsy smear of color รอบ window title และ file menu เห็นได้ว่าบางคนอาจไม่ชอบ
Ubuntu Lucid tabs on top:
อีกตัว cool:
Overall tabs on top okay แต่ concept geared toward younger people ถ้าถามผม tabs on top thing = sensation เหมือน Facebook แต่หยุดไม่ได้ ไม่มีใครรู้ว่าทำไม tabs on top มาถึง และอะไรทำให้มัน holier than holy water
Mac look Snow Leopard courtesy of my brother:
New menu
ถ้า tabs on top ไม่มี classic file menu ได้ brand new magic orange button ซ้ายบน ทำ usual stuff ทั้งหมด ดู charming บน XP และ 7 ไม่มี fancy สำหรับ Linux โดยไม่มี special themes/tweaks
Sync
HTML5 stuff
HTML5 = new buzz word เว็บเก่า infused multimedia elements embed audio, video, rich apps ลง web pages minimal coding fuss ดูดีและทำงานดี
Tab grouping
Feature น่าสนใจ คลิก grid-like icon มุมขวาบน ได้ canvas shuffle tabs เป็น separate groups ลด tab clutter ทำงานกับ small collections similar items แม้เปิดทั้งหมด ลด stress เพิ่ม productivity ช่วย organize work และสนุก
Addons manager beautified
Plugins
Plugins ไม่ smooth บน Windows Youtube OK แต่ Linux (openSUSE, Ubuntu) Firefox 4 refuse ทำงานกับ Flash plugin ไม่ blame beta แต่ food for thought
Feedback
Submit feedback ได้ กด feedback button เลือก action - happy/sad function นี้ควรให้คุณ vent anger และให้ developers/marketing คนได้ right information ถ้าไม่ชอบอะไร shout!
Hardware acceleration
Windows machines ได้ hardware acceleration whenever possible intensive graphic activities ใช้เวลาน้อย offload CPU ไป important tasks Ideal สำหรับ games เช่น Quake Live
Speed
Speed wise Firefox 4 ~ same as 3.6 improvements more to come Rendering engine optimized แต่ไม่สังเกต big difference แต่ responsiveness improved immensely Firefox 4 FEELS faster ใน browser activity animated ให้ perception of blitz speed เหมือน Chrome ทำ itchy, impatient users happy Good. Very good.
Memory usage
Firefox 4 ใช้ resources ~ same as predecessor ทุก systems Usage single tab ~35-40MB steady
Firefox 3.6.9:
Firefox 4 Ubuntu 64-bit:
Firefox 4 Windows 7:
ทดสอบ Firefox บน Windows XP, Windows 7, Ubuntu Lucid, openSUSE 11.2 ทำงาน superb ทุก case ไม่มี weird bugs, errors, glitches ยกเว้น most extensions, themes, plugins incompatible Firefox 4 แต่ไม่ควรเป็นปัญหา เพราะไม่เคยเป็นกับ official releases
ผมคิด Firefox 4 = very smart product ดูดีกว่า 3.6 overall tabs on top หรือไม่ มี useful features มาก Web 2.0 bling bling Linux beta ล้าหนึ่งขั้นเข้าใจได้ Performance ดีทุกด้าน major improvements responsiveness Memory consumption modest Firefox 4 = pleasant addition to browser arsenal
Firefox 4 = plenty of good old stuff + sprinkling of new ทำให้รู้สึก young excited อีกครั้ง Mozilla good job แม้ revolutionary stuff ทำด้วย style และ moderation ทำให้ hot-headed conservative อย่างผมยิ้ม ควร look forward to next release Firefox 4 = superb browser
Cheers.
