Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe) ใช้ CPU, GPU หรือ Memory สูง

Desktop Window Manager หรือ dwm.exe ใน Windows 11/10 เป็นกระบวนการระบบที่จัดการเอฟเฟกต์ภาพบนเดสก์ท็อป แม้ต้องการทรัพยากรบ้าง แต่คอมพิวเตอร์สมัยใหม่รองรับได้ดี มาทำความเข้าใจกระบวนการนี้

Desktop Window Manager – dwm.exe คืออะไร

Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe) ใช้ CPU, GPU หรือ Memory สูง

DWM.exe ช่วย rendering เอฟเฟกต์ภาพบนเดสก์ท็อป และฟีเจอร์ต่างๆ เช่น glass window frames, 3-D window transition animations, high-resolution support ฯลฯ

Desktop Window Manager เขียนภาพแต่ละภาพบน Windows ไปยังหน่วยความจำ สร้างมุมมองรวมทั้งหมดส่งไปยังหน้าจอ ทำให้ OS ใช้ Hardware Acceleration สร้าง animation ลื่นไหล ใช้สร้างเอฟเฟกต์โปร่งใสได้

Desktop Window Manager ใช้ CPU, GPU หรือ Memory สูง

ไฟล์แทน Desktop Window Manager คือ dwn.exe ปกติใช้ 50-100 MB RAM และ 2-3% CPU ขึ้นอยู่กับระบบ ถ้าเปิดหน้าต่างและกระบวนการ animation เยอะ จะใช้ memory สูง ทำให้ระบบช้าหรือค้าง ถ้าเจอปัญหา dwm.exe ลองทำดังนี้:

  1. Disable screensaver
  2. Run Performance Troubleshooter
  3. Adjust system for best performance
  4. Switch to Basic Theme
  5. Update display drivers
  6. Update all installed software
  7. Scan PC with antivirus
  8. Troubleshoot in Clean Boot State
  9. Use Xperf

1] Disable screensaver

ถ้า DWM ใช้ทรัพยากรสูง ลองเปลี่ยน theme/wallpaper ถ้าเปิด Screensaver ให้ปิด ลองเปลี่ยน Personalization settings ทั้งหมด: Lock Screen, Color Profiles ฯลฯ ดูว่าหายไหม

2] Run Performance Troubleshooter

เพิ่มประสิทธิภาพ Windows รัน Performance Troubleshooter เปิด Command Prompt Admin พิมพ์:

msdt.exe /id PerformanceDiagnostic

Troubleshooter ช่วยปรับตั้งค่าเพื่อความเร็วและประสิทธิภาพ ถ้าไม่ช่วย ต้อง troubleshoot Windows performance issues ดูว่า version รองรับไหม

3] Adjust the system for best performance

ค้นหาและเปิด Performance Options ไปแท็บ Visual Effects เลือก radio button Adjust the system for best performance

4] Switch to Basic Theme

Switch ไป Basic Theme ลดโหลดระบบและแบตเตอรี่มาก แต่ไม่หยุด DWM

5] Update display drivers

บางคนรายงานว่าอัปเดต display drivers ช่วย ตรวจสอบว่าใช้ device drivers ล่าสุดหรือไม่

6] Update all installed software

ซอฟต์แวร์บางตัวทำให้ dwm.exe ใช้ memory สูง ตรวจสอบว่า Windows OS และซอฟต์แวร์ทั้งหมด อัปเดตเป็นเวอร์ชันล่าสุด

7] Scan PC with antivirus software

dwm.exe จริงอยู่ใน System32 แต่ถ้าอยู่โฟลเดอร์อื่นอาจเป็น malware รัน full scan ด้วย antivirus

8] Troubleshoot in Clean Boot State

ทำ Clean Boot แล้วหากระบวนการที่ทำให้ dwm.exe ทำงานไม่มีประสิทธิภาพด้วยตนเอง

9] Use Xperf

System administrators ใช้ Xperf performance tracing tool based on Event Tracing for Windows ส่วนหนึ่งของ Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit

How to disable Desktop Window Manager?

ปิด DWM สนิทไม่แตกต่างมาก แต่ถ้าต้องการปิด ทำได้ใน Windows 7 และก่อนหน้า เพราะรันเป็น Service พิมพ์ services.msc ใน Start Search Enter เปิด Services Manager หา Desktop Window Manager Session Manager service เปลี่ยน Startup type เป็น Disabled

ใน Windows 10 เป็น application ไม่สามารถปิดได้

กระบวนการที่ใช้ทรัพยากรสูง:

  • WMI Provider Host High CPU Usage
  • Wuauserv high CPU usage
  • Windows Driver Foundation using high CPU
  • Windows Shell Experience Host uses high CPU
