WSUS Offline Less Intuitive ตรงไปตรงมา แค่การรันเครื่องมือให้ถูกต้องก็ต้องเดาเล็กน้อย มันอยู่ใน Archive แต่มี Binary แยก 2 ตัว UpdateGenerator.exe คือ Binary หลักใน Top Directory ใช้ดึง Downloads จาก Official Site UpdateInstaller.exe คือ Tool ที่คุณรันจริงเพื่อ Config และ Install Updates หลังจากที่ Generator ดาวน์โหลดเสร็จ แบบคล้ายสองตัวเลือกของ Autopatcher แต่แยกเป็น 2 Tools ต่างกัน เพิ่มความซับซ้อน Installer อยู่ใน Client Sub-directory
Main Interface Busier กว่า Autopatcher เลือก Releases แยกกันสำหรับ Windows, Office และ Legacy Products รองรับ Windows 7 และ 8 เพิ่ม Runtime Libraries, Security Tools, .NET Stuff, Windows Defender Definitions ได้
อย่างน่าสนใจคือ สามารถสร้าง ISO Image พร้อม Updates ได้ เพื่อแจกจ่ายไปยังระบบอื่นๆ และใช้ WSUS Servers ของตัวเองเป็น Source แทน Internet
เริ่ม Download Process WSUS Offline จะ Spawn Command Line Window ให้ Monitor Progress ได้ ช้ากว่า Autopatcher แม้จำนวนและขนาดแพตช์รวมเพียงครึ่งหนึ่ง ผ่านขั้นตอน Check, Compare, Download, Validate Command Line Stuff ทำให้ Nerdy มากขึ้น
Download เสร็จ สามารถ Check Warnings ได้ โปรแกรทจะ Prompt Updated Releases กระบวนการดาวน์โหลดรวมใช้เวลา 2 ชั่วโมงสำหรับ ~205 Updates
Installer
ขั้นตอนต่อไปคือรัน Installation จริง แต่เพราะสับสนเล็กน้อย ผมลองรัน Generator มันรันนาน ผมไม่แน่ใจว่ามัน Cache และ Compare Data เพราะรู้สึก Bandwidth ถูกสูบแห้งในบาป ไม่ว่าจะเป็น Technical Reasons จริง WSUS Offline Rebuild Indexed Data ช้ามาก Workflow ยังซับซ้อนด้วย Binary 2 ตัวและ Placement ไม่ Uniform และมี IE11 Prompt ตอนเริ่ม Installer ครั้งแรก บอกว่า Browser จะ Update เป็น Latest Version ไช่วยอะไรไม่ได้
ในตอนนี้ ผมลังเลจะดำเนินต่อ เพราะไม่แน่ใจระบบจะทำอะไร ไม่มี Visibility ว่าจะ Select Updates ไหน หรือทำไม ไม่ได้โอกาส Select หรือ Mark อะไรเลย Generator รัน 2 รอบนานมากและดูเหมือน Re-download ทุกอย่าง ไม่ให้ Confidence
แต่น่าสนใจคือ มันติดตั้ง THE ONE Patch ที่ Autopatcher Miss ไป Re-index Missing และดึงไฟล์อีก 2 ไฟล์ ตรงกับ Leftovers อื่นๆ ผมไม่แน่ใจ Logic แต่ดูเหมือน Cover Stuff ที่ Autopatcher ข้ามไป Malware Removal Tool ถูก Skip ซึ่งดี Process เสร็จ Success มี Windows Login Prompt หลัง Reboot ทั้งหมดจบดี แตผมไม่มี Control ระดับที่คาดหวัง โดยเฉพาะการเลือกไฟล์เดี่ยว

สรุป
WSUS Offline เป็นอีกเครื่องมือที่คุณสามารถใช้แทนหรือเสริม WU หรือเป็น Utility ช่วย Workaround Slow Updates Issues ควรทำหรือไม่เป็นคำถามอีกอย่าง
Autopatcher พิสูจน์ว่า Okay แต่ไม่ Perfect แต่ Consistent ในพฤติกรรมและสิ่งที่ทำ Tally สุดท้ายคือ 2 Updates ไม่ In Line กับ WU ระบบทำงานดี Errors บน Index Rebuilt Annoying แต่ไม่พัง System Health ด้วย WSUS Offline ผม Skeptical มากกว่า Hesitant มากกว่า กัดน้ำเต้าสิ้นมันเสร็จโดยไม่มี Error หรือ Damage แตเป็น Bit of a Risk
กลับไปที่คำถามเดิมตอนทดสอบ Autopatcher พร้อม Disclaimers มากขึ้น WSUS Offline ดู Even Less Intuitive และไม่มีทาง Hand-pick Updates แบบรายตัว (หรืออาจมีแต่ผมพลาด) โดยรวม อีก Tool ที่ทำงานได้ ทำตามสัญญา แต่เพิ่ม Healthy Dose of Worry ที่ผมไม่ยอมแลกกับความช้าบ้างในกระบวนการ คุณต้องตัดสินใจว่าสิ่งไหนสำคัญกว่า และทดสอบทั้งสองอย่างอย่างละเอียดก่อนเลือกใช้ ถ้าจะใช้ ไว้พบกันใน Guide ที่จะแก้ WU Slowness Issues แล้วกัน Bye bye, Children of the Internet
