ใน Windows 11, 10, 8, 7 & Vista User Account Control (UAC) เปิดใช้งาน Default ทำงานใน Admin Approval Mode Windows Explorer หรือ explorer.exe ก็ถูกตั้งให้รันใน Standard User Context แม้จะคลิกขวา explorer.exe เลือก "Run as Administrator" จะยังคงรันใน Standard User Context
Windows File Explorer จะไม่รันใน Elevated Mode
ปัญหาเกิดจาก UAC สามารถ Elevate Application ไปสู่ Higher Token ได้ก็ต่อเมื่อ Launch New Process ไม่สามารถ Elevate Existing Process ได้
เมื่อ User ใด Login Windows Explorer เริ่มต้นแล้วใน Standard User Context มันรันใน Background เสมอเพื่อแสดง Desktop และไม่สามารถ Elevate ได้ เพราะ Windows Explorer เป็น Existing Process แล้ว
Windows Explorer ไม่ได้ออกแบบมาให้ปฏิบัติตาม UAC Guidelines สำหรับ Applications ที่ "คาดหวัง" ให้รันในทั้งสอง Context: Standard และ Administrator CMD.exe เป็นตัวอย่าง Application ที่ออกแบบตาม UAC Guidelines รันได้ทั้ง Standard และ Admin Context
หากไม่อยากให้ Prompt สามารถเปลี่ยน Security Policy Setting "Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode" เป็น "Elevate without Prompting" แนะนำโดย KB2273047 หรือ Disable UAC ได้
